Exam Arrangements

Students whose performance in exams is negatively affected by factors related to their disability or health can apply to have alternative arrangements put in place for exams/tests (CPIT Policy 5.9: Supplementary Assessment Arrangements).

Alternative assessment arrangements are not designed to advantage students but to improve the disadvantage that students with disabilities or health conditions may experience in demonstrating their competence. All students must demonstrate they have met essential course requirements.

Register with Disability Services

In order to access alternative arrangements: students must be registered with Disability Services and have been approved to have alternative assessment arrangements.

Alternative arrangements

Some or all of the following alternative arrangements may be available depending on the student's assessed needs:

  • separate room where the student can take the assessment alone with supervision from inside or outside the room;
  • extra time, usually 10 minutes per hour; or 15 minutes for a one-hour assessment;
  • providing the assessment in alternative formats; e.g. large font, electronic text;
  • providing reading and/or writing support through the provision of reader-writer staff support;
  • providing ergonomic furniture or equipment;
  • access to a computer to type rather than hand-write responses.

Apply for alternative assessment arrangements

Students must be registered with Disability Services and have been assessed as being entitled to alternative exam arrangements.
