Appointments with Learning Advisors

Learning Services can provide one-to-one and group appointments (up to a maximum of one hour per week). This is a free service where you can discuss issues related to academic writing, exam preparation, referencing, study skills, time management and other academic skills. Our learning advisors will work with you to identify areas in need of development.

Our focus is on supporting students to manage their own study and to help students develop strategies to revise their own work. We are not a proof reading service and we cannot edit or correct your work for you.

Before your appointment:

  • Read through your course work and identify the areas that you are concerned about.
  • Write down specific questions that you have about your course work.

If your appointment is about a specific assignment you will need to do the following:

  • Bring all the information that the tutor has given you about the assignment, including the assignment question and the marking guide.
  • Have prepared a draft outline of your work in note form or
  • Have proof read your work for errors with spelling, punctuation and grammar. Reading aloud can help with this and remember also to use the spell check facility on your word processing package.
  • Write down specific questions that you have about your assignment.
